Helping the Misunderstood

Hounds Town Charities is a 501c3 founded in 2011 by Michael Gould—Founder and President of Hounds Town USA, a fully interactive pet care facility. Gould is a former canine handler for the NYPD and the former Commanding Officer of the Nassau County Canine Unit as well as a Navy veteran. He has more than 35 years of dog training and management experience, with a special focus on aggressive dogs.

After volunteering his time for more than 30 years in various municipal shelters on Long Island, Gould realized he was missing something. “I used to go to the shelters on the weekends, and I thought to myself ‘there are humans in similar situations that I could be helping as well.’ ” He decided he should be dividing his time between helping dogs and people, which is why in 2011 he formed Hounds Town Charities with the mission of rehabilitating people through animals. Since the charity’s inception, Gould has helped rehabilitate and home hundreds of dogs from local shelters. Most of these dogs were labeled “red” for misunderstood behavioral issues.

Our mission at Hounds Town Charities, Inc. is to rehabilitate and train society’s abandoned or unwanted animals with the ultimate goal of helping the sick and disabled. We assist and support both private and municipal shelters and rescues across the country with hard-to-adopt dogs through a variety of programs and community services.
